While you may be dreaming of gracing the silver screen with your
riveting stage presence and stunning good looks, you might consider
voice acting as a side pursuit. Unfamiliar? Voice acting is done
primarily for animated features and cartoons, but there is also
a lot of work in radio. You might not get to appear on screen,
but your voice will be associated with the character you do the
voice for, giving the character it's personality and feel.
There is no special way to get into voice acting. You can make
an audition tape with samples of the different voices that you
do, and start shopping it around. Radio stations, animation studios,
these are some of the places that you will be working for. Some
people find it useful to get an agent that specializes in voice
acting work. They can help you find jobs and let people producing
projects hear your audition tape - increasing the chances that
someone will hear your voice and decide they want you for their
next project. You can even post your audition tape online with
an Internet talent service.
Voice acting is fun because you give characters their personality,
and use funny voices to give commercials and announcements their
flavor. Movie trailers use voice-acting pros to help create the
feel of the movie in a three-minute segment. You've heard it before;
"He was a cop who wouldn't give up, she was a public defender
with nothing to lose...together, they brought a vicious crime
ring to it's knees..." |
