Auditioning may be the most traumatic thing you ever experience
in you life. Some people become nauseous before auditioning, requiring
them to make a mad rush to the restroom before they loose their
lunch of Thai fast food just as their call time rolls around.
It's not that they are afraid of auditioning itself, but more
like they are afraid that everyone will hate them and they're
going to do everything wrong, most likely all at the same time,
and these thoughts make them so nervous that their head starts
spinning and the next thing they know they are hugging the porcelain
god, swearing this is not going to happen next time.
Why should we be nervous about auditioning? The above example
in an extreme case, and someone with such a severe case of nerves
probably gets nervous when they go to renew their driver's license.
But what should we do in order to avoid being nervous when we
are auditioning? The best thing to do, number one, is to be prepared.
Have your clothes picked out the day before, get plenty of sleep,
wake up early and get there with plenty of time to spare, have
lunch in the area, or bring some of your favorite "comfort foods"
with you, grab a coffee and relax for awhile thinking about anything
else but acting. You're cool. Auditioning is a breeze, and who
cares if you don't get the part? You're still a super-star.
The point is that hopefully, if you're acting, you are doing
what you love, so you should be having fun, which means that auditioning
should be fun too. There is no reason to be nervous because you
are going to do the best you possibly can. Auditioning is an ongoing
process, if you don't get one part, there is another one out there
waiting for you. |
