Acting Coaches
Acting coaches will either be your best friend or your worst
enemy. They will be your best friend if you have decided that
you want to be the best darned actor this side of the Mississippi
and you're willing to work tirelessly for hours to improve your
skills and you won't let anything get in the way of your goal
of becoming a true thespian. They will be your worst enemy if
you see acting coaches as some sort of an accessory to be adorned
as part of the "I am an actress" ensemble that you pull out when
it's time to impress someone.
This is to say, if your heart is not really in it, there's not
much acting coaches can do for you, and you are only wasting your
time and theirs if your goal is not to truly force yourself to
work on and improve your acting talent in hopes of furthering
your career. On the flip side, if you are going for it all the
way and you want to take advantage of all opportunities available
to you in order to become a better actor or actress, hunt around
and find out who are the best acting coaches in your area, it's
a step in the right direction.
You can find information on acting coaches at local theatres
and in industry magazines, online services, and posted on bulletin
boards at colleges and community centers. Try talking to a friend
or associate who may have worked with a couple of acting coaches
already - they may just know a good one they can recommend!
